FEA Structural Evaluation of repairable limit for LPT Stg-2 Blades

1. FEA Simulation Objective:
Setting blend repair limit for Engine Manual is planned.
2. FEA Simulation Methodology and Approach:
Stress concentration factor (Kt) due to blend repair needs to be assessed to define a repairable limit. This study was carried out to check repairable limit with different blend depth which is required to do, in case the blade undergoes any kind of damage/ crack or dent appearance on the LPT Blade edge.
3. Outcome & Conclusion
For the analysis, the LPT Stg-2 blade is considered and 9 locations are identified on the leading and trailing edge as damage location. for all these damage locations repair is considered as a blend with three different dimensions. the analysis is performed for all 54 models with different damage locations and different blend dimensions. Kt is calculated for all 54 cases and tabulated to evaluated to the repairable limit. it helped to DR team to take calls immediately for use as is or go for repair blend dimensions

1. FEA Simulation objective:
The simulation objective was to evaluate the source of Noise coming out of the Powertrain observed at driver side. This was a critical issue as it was close to vehicle launch
2. FEA Simulation Methodology and Approach:
Stiffness was added to different parts of PT assembly with the help of morphing and system performance was evaluated. Different alternatives were provided based on changes to various parts such as mount bracket, drug arm, transmission case, bell housing,  brace attachments, and costing was also discussed as part changes would need changes to the die designs
3. Outcome & Conclusion
Different alternatives were provided to technical leads and other groups such as testing and release engineering. The issue was resolved in a short period of time without increasing cost related to design changes

Used Hypermesh and Abaqus to build system-level assemblies of Refrigerator, Washer, and Wall oven. Dynamic drop simulation as per standard engineering test procedures as per UL specs carried out. The analysis predicts damage to the unit packaging, provided design suggestions.
Packaging was model with EPS foam (hyper foam model) in Abaqus. FEA achieved a good correlation with the test.
