Low motion semi-submersible platforms FSI simulation Consulting

 

The objective of the CFD simulation is to study the hydrodynamic performance of the low motion semi and to estimate the uptime. The CFD Analysis Simulation results obtained from the CFD Numerical Modeling are also compared with the experimental results.
OpenFoam is used in the FSI simulations as part of the scope of work for the CFD Research and consultancy project.
The wave generation toolbox waves2Foam is utilized as a part of the Fluid Flow Analysis to generate regular and irregular waves. VOF method is used in the toolbox to simulate the free surface.
The numerical results from the CFD Modeling Simulation agree with the experimental results well. The low motion semi shows good hydrodynamic performance and high uptime compared to conventional twin pontoon semi.
Our CFD Company also developed a Python design tool for low motion semi shape optimization. The FSI Consulting project delivered by our CFD Services Company finally won the “ISE prestigious Engineering Achievement Awards 2018”.
 
 

 

Numerical CFD FSI Simulation of Three Dimensional Local Scouring Around Submarine Pipeline

 

The offshore pipeline, which transfers oil or gas from offshore to onshore, is one of the most important marine engineering equipment. As for the offshore pipelines laid directly on a sandy seabed, the complex marine hydrodynamic conditions often induce the local scour and cause the suspension of the pipeline, which makes the offshore pipeline unstable and has the potential risk of fracture. Scour under a submarine pipeline can lead to structural failure; hence, a good understanding of the scour mechanism is necessary.
In the CFD Flow Analysis Simulation study, Our CFD Consultant in our CFD Consulting Company attempted to find out the mechanics of pipeline scour propagation along the spanwise direction of the pipeline. The aim to represent a numerical investigation of the scour phenomenon around a submarine pipeline. The numerical simulations would be performed using SedFoam by our CFD Consultants in our Fluid Dynamics Company, a two-phase flow model for sediment transport implemented in the open-source Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Simulation toolbox OpenFOAM.
The k-ε turbulence model will be checked by completing the numerical CFD Flow Simulation.
As part of the scope of work for the CFD Analysis Services provided to our client, the outcome of the CFD Fluid Dynamics Simulation study would be to predict the three dimensional scouring under submarine pipeline and to understand the scouring phenomenon, to understand the predictive capability of two-phase flow model and change in scour pattern for different particle size of sediment.
 
 

 

The new design of separation tank Using CFD Computational Engineering Designs

 

Objective:

The objective of the CFD Fluid Flow Simulation was to find separation efficiency of oil, water and air separation tank for lubrication.

Methodology

The eulerian multi-phase technique for 3 phase separation was used.
From the CFD Simulation, it was concluded that the current tank is not suitable for separation. This was also a complaint from some of the customers.
From CFD Consultancy Project, it was concluded that only 10 % of total plates are utilized for separation. Velocity from CFD was also validated from a physical test. The physical test confirmed CFD results.
Based on CFD consulting studies, a new design was proposed and again verified by physical tests. Now, it is implemented in the product.
 
 

 

The three-dimensional design of full aero-package for Formula Style Student Race-Car

 

Organization: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Principal Investigator (PI): 
The overall CFD Consulting services project involves the design of complete aero-package assembly i.e., nosecone, wings, and diffuser for Formula Style Student Race-Car competition.
The aim of the Discover and Learn project is to fabricate an open-wheel race car (Electric/Combustion) with a focus on good design, reliability, and performance. The fabricated car runs on Formula student SAE design competitions organized by SAE international every year across the world. The CFD Design project has mainly deal with the study of car aerodynamics for design optimization.

FSI Simulation of Small ice Floes response in regular waves

 

This study aims to study the dynamic performance of small ice floes in ocean waves.
OpenFoam is used in the FSI Analysis simulations. The wave generation toolbox waves2Foam is utilized to generate regular and irregular waves. VOF method is used in the toolbox to simulate the free surface. The numerical results from the FSI Consulting Engineers are compared with the experiments carried out in NUS hydraulic lab.
