Behavioral Analysis of the non-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation on a one Dimensional Domain

Simulation Objective:
The objective of the work is to analyze the behavior of the non-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation on a one-dimensional domain. The exact solution is known for the structure of a cell-collocated Finite-Volume solver by imposing the velocity field constraint on a one-dimensional incompressible constraint.
Methodology:
The Navier Stokes equation is solved using the SIMPLE algorithm and a python code has been generated to automate the process. Various kinds of analysis were carried out to determine the best possible factors under different conditions. The evolution of velocity and pressure residuals is studied for different discretization schemes and Reynold’s number with respect to cell size. The effect of relaxation factors with respect to the different number of iterations, the evolution of pressure and velocity error norms for a different number of cell numbers are also studied.
Conclusion :
The analysis gives a clear cut idea of the suitability of the differences that influence the flow with respect to flow conditions. For example, the accuracy of the centered scheme is high when compared to the upwind scheme during the convective dominated flow but the solution is not stable. The upwind scheme gives a stable solution and converges faster but maybe less accurate. Likewise, the effect of many factors with respect to different flow conditions is studied. Therefore the selection of discretization schemes, relaxation factors, convergence, number of iterations, etc depends on the flow conditions and kind of results required as per the user.

Design & Optimize the New Pump for FM & UL Approvals

Objective: Design & Optimize the New Pump for FM & UL Approvals, also include Power reduction and Efficiency improvement for Higher Capacity and cost reduction.
Methodology: With initial calculations, a geometry of the pump impeller was designed and modeled. VistaCPD and iSight were used for Optimization for Geometric parameters  & design points. two different configurations of the impeller were developed with a mean line inverse design approach.
Next, the geometry was exported to ICEMCFD and HEX Mesh was done in ICEMCFD. Wall integration approach is adopted for the initial  Boundary layer calculations. Also, other default approvals are followed for Mesh Acceptance Study.
The initial mesh (Rotating Fluid & Stationary fluid) was exported to ANSYS CFX. Domain and Boundary conditions are created. initially, the FR interface was used until the flux balance and then stage interface model used for until final iterations. SST k-omega was used for this analysis and tight convergence and High Resolution upwind was used for this analysis. Parameters for outlet conditions are also created and finally, this was solved for various flow rate conditions at the outlet to head and power calculations.
All the CFD Quality procedure are followed and applied to the two initial mesh designs and Solutions.
Finally details post processing was carried out to for loss distributions on rotation fluid impeller and various plane are created and the solution valued are justified.
With the reading detailed report was created and approval was submitted. Additionally, 1 way FSI was also done to validated the mechanical integrity of the pump using ANSYS. These designs are submitted and Drawings are created and Prototypes are developed and Tested in pump test rig.
Results: The Obtained Test readings (power and efficiency for Various design flow rates)are compared with CFD results and The full process is Validated. Hydraulic Institute standards and FM guidelines are followed for the design(performance goals and tolerance).
Outcome: New Pump with Less power consumption and High efficiency for Higher Flow rates for FM & UL approvals.
