Structural Optimization

Structural Optimization is a critical engineering function our Singapore Team perform on a day to day basis.
At BroadTech Engineering, we have extensively worked on various FEA engineering simulation projects by using various professional simulation software like ANSYS (Classic, Workbench, and ACP), NX-CAE, MSC. Patran, MSC. Nastran, Hyper mesh.
Below are a few of our featured structural optimization case studies.

Featured Structural Optimization Case Studies

Structural Optimization

2D Analysis of Bearing Compartment Assembly & Support Optimization

Objective: Perform 2D static analysis of Bearing compartment structures, Redesign the Support fillet to meet the strength.
Methodology/Approach: 2D FE Model was built using Plane 42 Axisymmetric Elements. A line of Line contacts is created. The stiffness of the 2D parts has been achieved by adjusting the Modulus of Elasticity of the material. A fit study has been performed for optimizing the
required fits to use for 3D analysis.Various iterations are performed by changing the fillet radius to meet the necessary strength criteria.
Conclusion: Optimized Fits meet the criteria of Loose to be loose and Tight to be tight under the operating conditions. Required stack load has been achieved and Strength criteria have been met with the modified fillet radius.

Bearing Housing Compartment Static & Rotating Structures Assembly Analysis

Objective: Perform Nonlinear static analysis of Bearing compartment structures and compare the von Mises stress against strength values.
Methodology/Approach: 3D FE Model was built using Solid 45 and Solid 95 Elements. Surface to Surface contacts are created using Contact 174
and Target 170 Elements with Augmented Lagrange Method. Complete FITS study has been performed by using the Loose and Tight Fit values
obtained from the 2D analysis. Stiffness analysis has been performed for components which are not axisymmetric. Preload of nut has been simulated
using Pretension 179 elements. 3D Assembly has been analyzed for various loads such as Normal, Limit and Thermal.
Conclusion: It has been observed that all the Fits meet the criteria of Loose to be loose and Tight to be tight when subjected to the operating conditions.
Strength criteria have been met when compared with the strength of the materials.
